Joy Davis is a dance artist, educator, and mother. She is a Senior Countertechnique® Teacher, holds an MFA in Choreography & Performance from Smith College, and is pursuing Alexander Teacher Training.
Joy has been on faculty at Boston Conservatory at Berklee since 2016, recently piloting a Career Development & Networking seminar which connects current students with resources and alumni to increase understanding for pursuing a professional life in dance. Joy is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance at Davidson College and has taught at Harvard University, Smith College, Wesleyan University, and UNC Charlotte; and masterclasses/workshops at the Juilliard School, American Dance Festival (ADF), Bates Dance Festival (BDF), and One Body One Career Countertechnique® Intensive.
Together with Alexander Davis, Joy co-founded the dynamic absurdist duet company, The Davis Sisters (TDS), creating work at the intersection of dance, theater, comedy and installation. TDS curates guest artists and cameos, and facilitates dialogue within communities in which they perform, such as The Yard, ADF, BDF, Boston Center for the Arts, Wesleyan University, and Goodyear Arts. She founded joyproject in 2005 as a platform for creation, collaboration and production, having created numerous independent works, commissions for colleges and dance companies all around the US such as New Dialect, Urbanity Dance, Baran Dance, Scottsdale Community College, and Davidson College, amongst others. Joy has performed works by Shaina Cantino, Erica Mott, Claudia Lavista, Heather Stewart; and presented work at RADFest, Fact/SF, UrBANGUILD Kyoto, and Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation.
Now based in Charlotte, Joy is a collective member of Goodyear Arts, a recipient of KineticWorks NC Choreographer’s Project Residency, and co-produces LadyFest alongside collaborator Megan Payne. She regularly collaborates with husband, Eric Mullis, and cherishes the integration of artistic and family life.
